Activities 2018
Rondewu Vol. 3
Borders and Limits
Salecina is located in the middle of the mountains very near to the border between Switzerland and Italy. Mountains have always been weird entities: they are places where actual borders get blurry, hiding-places where you nontheless can see everything from above, places where everything else seems remote but maybe therefore suddenly more clear. Putting an emphasis on the natural conditions of the setting we decided to assemble our ideas for the rondewu 2018 around the topic «Borders and Limits». When you think of borders you can think of actual borders as the ones we have to cross, coming from different regions, to get to Salecina, borders which clasify people into those who belong and those who don`t belong to a country.
But you can also take it a step further and maybe you will detect borders all over, personal or shared ones, borders that put constraints on some while enabling others, borders that limit our thinking and so on. In the list down below you can see a collection of ideas and projects that will be happening during the week in September, suggestions how some of this borders could be bent and distorted and creatively reorganied. Nevertheless, Salecina remains an open space where nothing is fully fixed and strictly planned in advance: feel free to bring in your ideas and contributions!
DIFFERENT FORMS OF RESISTANCE: INPUT AND DISCUSSION
historically speaking there have been all different kinds of (leftwing) resistance and / or civil inobedience: more violent and loud ones and also more peaceful and „subtle“ ones, some of them being succesful and some of them not so much. This variety of modes and methods is evergrowing: with movements like Occupy, the Umbrella-movement in Hong Kong or #Metoo we face a whole new spectrum of protests and resistance. Are there things we can learn from the past? What are maybe also our own experiences?
MANIFESTOS
Manifestos come in all shapes and colours, there are used to formulate a political programm, to rant at all that is bad in the world or to imagine what is possible. They can be full of anger or urgency (Workers of the world, unite!) but they can also be quircky and confusing and poetic. The aim of the activity will not so much be to decide what a manifesto is and what it is not, but to try to create our own manifestos. Finding our own imagery, finding our own language and getting rid of some stancils and patterns that hinder us from being „clear“. Maybe it will turn out that a manifesto is not about words at all but needs other means of expression. The idea is that the manifestos which come into being during the week will be perfomed or read at the end of the week. They could also be recorded (Radio workshop).
PRINTING WORKSHOP
The idea of this workshop is to generate a tool for recording the flow of thoughts and reflections that we come across during the week. Material from the discussions can be collected, reproduced and further developed using a d.i.y. printer. This process can be extended, using colours and natural material we find outside and result in zines and silly archives or just loose sheets of paper.
RADIO WORKSHOP
Similar to the printing workshop, this activity doesn‘t revolve around a fixed topic but offers a way to add to the ongoing discussions, maybe fuel or chanel them, and helps us to keep track of what‘s happening. We will bring in a few recording devices which can wander from hand to hand and there will also be a small radio studio installed in the building, where the recorded material can be collected, cut and reheard. What results from all this largely depends on the participants. Possible ideas would be a rather formal journalistic approach which documents the Rondewu from an outsiders perspective, including interviews and maybe also refering to the history of Salecina. But it could also go into the direction of an abstract sound collage or a sort of „mockumentary“. Some of it could be combined to an actual radio feature afterwards and broadcasted via independent radio stations.
CHOIR
same as the last years our mountain-choir will rehearse every evening. The special focus of this year will be polyphonic songs of the repertoire of resistance (partisan songs and
others).
HIKING
We will go for a short or long hike, whatever the group feels like.
YOGA
regular yogal: Feeling borders, overcoming borders.
Note:
-> The participation in the activties is optional: everyone can put
their own focus and choose what they want to do or take a break if necessary.
